Our Favorite Kauai Food Trucks - Part 1
May 03, 2019
Kauai is an island rich in great produce, fresh food and a range of local specialties. In between enjoying the surf, hiking and exploring all of the adventure the island has to offer, you will find plenty of options to refuel with great eateries all across the island. One of the highlights of Kauai is our vast amount of amazing food trucks. In fact, there are over 50 different food trucks to explore in Kauai offering a range of great dishes and cuisines. Since we know you won’t have time to try them all we have narrowed down a few of our favorites that offer a taste of everything.
Trucking Delicious
Kauai local, Chef Chloe Sorey, was raised in Hanalei and certainly knows how to cook a delicious local style lunch plate. The menu changes seasonally but you can expect to indulge in local favorites like sweet and spicy coconut shrimp, Kauai garlic shrimp, kalua pork and cabbage, shoyu chicken, and more. Find Trucking Delicious in Hanalei behind the liquor store and follow them on Instagram to see what mouthwatering local dishes they are serving up.

Hanalei Taro & Juice Company Lunch Wagons
Another stellar lunch stop where you can find local dishes is Hanalei Taro & Juice Company. Owned by a six-generation farm family this truck offers farm to table dishes with a focus on local, seasonal produce and ingredients. Try the kalua pork plate, one of the most popular local Hawaiian dishes. Not only do they serve up delicious plates, they are also very involved in the local community. After you enjoy your meal you can sign up for a Historic Rice Mill & Taro Farm Tour to learn more about the agriculture of Kauai. The tours help support the local community and area a great way to both learn about the farming on Kauai but also give back to the people of Kauai and the historic restoration efforts.

Wailua Shave Ice
Shaved ice is a treat not to be missed in Kauai. There are plenty of great shaved ice trucks on the island that offer a perfect treat and escape from the days heat, but one we love if you are in Kapa'a is Wailua Shave Ice, Voted as 2018’s Best Shave Ice on Kauai. The unique flavors, handcrafted from fresh local fruits and no artificial dyes or syrups makes this shaved ice elevated! As shared by the founder, “it’s Kauai in a bowl”. The line can get long at times but don't worry it moves quickly and is well worth the wait!

Looking for dinner and dessert in the same place? Right next door to Wailua Shave Ice is a great food truck, see below!
Scorpacciata Kauai
Directly next to Wailua Shave Ice you will find Scorpacciata Kauai which offers fresh made pizza with fresh local ingredients. While they are open all day, the best time to go is at night when the stringed lights make for a sweet ambiance for your pizza and shave ice experience. If you’re gluten free and/or vegan, they have options for you too! The gluten free crust is absolutely delicious and the vegan option (though it doesn’t have vegan cheese) was heavily loaded with plenty of veggies.

Porky’s Kauai
For those of you that eat pork, Porky’s Kauai is a must stop while visiting the island to try out some tasty, unique pork sandwiches. Located primarily in Waimea near the old Mill (and also in Hanapepe on Friday evenings, as well as a location in Kapa’a) Porky’s started as a hot dog stand that has now grown into a large food truck that is highly rated among tourists and locals alike. Stop by on your drive to or from Waimea Canyon and dive into one of Porky’s Kauai’s three signature sandwiches: a pineapple sausage, beef hot dog, and a grilled cheese – all topped with their famous slow roasted kalua pork and other delicious toppings and sauces.

Dim and Den Sum
A recent winner of Kauai’s battle of the food truck competition, Dim and Den Sum is a not-to be-missed food truck in Koloa. Serving up authentic Asian street food, this truck is owned by husband and wife Steven and Lynell who traveled South East Asia to find local street food they could bring back and recreate in Kauai. Enjoy chicken katsu, fried spam musubi, tempura sushi rolls, dim sum and more for a range of unique flavors. For daily specials you can give them a ring (808-977-0377).
